This Rolex GMT Master II 16710 is from 2006 and features a rare rectangular dial.
The reference 16710 was presented in 1989 as a successor to the reference 16750. For the first time the 24-hour-GMT hand could be adjusted separately, allowing for simultaneous reading of time in three different time zones.
Rolex GMT Master II 16710 was manufactured in the long period between 1989 and 2007. However, there were dial variations with a very short production run, which are rare and very sought after today. One of these dials is the one offered here. The Roman numeral II in the model name at 12 o'clock looks like a rectangle. Hence the name. Only watches with serial number starting with Z featured a rectangular dial.
Another special feature of this GMT Master II is the improved caliber 3186, which was developed in the end of the Z case numbers for the successor reference 116710 and is still the heart of the current GMT model. In our estimation, similar versions of the Rolex GMT Master like we have here were produced for a maximum of 6 months.
In addition to the rarity, excellent overall condition and the full set make this GMT Master a definitive collector's item. The watch was rarely worn and has a pristine and perfect dial and a sharp case with a thick profile. The luminous material is the Superluminova and shines beautifully in the dark. At 6 o'clock the dial is signed "SWISS MADE".
The full set includes:
- Rolex certificate in the form of a plastic card (introduced with the Z series)
- Rolex outer box
- Rolex presentation box
- Leather warranty holder.
The Oyster stainless steel bracelet was originally sold with this watch and is also in great condition. The numbers in the clasp are: EO1 (2007) and 78790GA.
This Rolex GMT Master convinces on all fronts: rare configuration, full set and a perfectly preserved condition.
