Favre Leuba Bivouac 53203 Blue Dial

old wrist barometer - striking look

Description
This is a vintage Favre Leuba Bivouac from the late 1960s. The striking black and blue dial gives this watch a high recognition value.

Favre Leuba has a long history dating back to 1737, making it one of the oldest Swiss watchmakers. In the middle of the twentieth century, the manufactory experienced its golden age. The active lifestyle became popular and the demand for tool watches increased constantly. Favre Leuba recognized the growing market and developed diving watches, pilot watches and chronographs. In 1962 the Bivouac was designed for outdoorsman being the first mechanical wristwatch with a barometer for measuring altitude and air pressure. Thanks to its reliability, precision and simple operation, the Bivouac has become an important equipment for alpinists, pilots and researchers.

Here you see the reference 53223 with a blue dial ring. The silver hour markers are placed on the black inner sub-dial and the small second is at 6 o'clock. The black rotating bezel shows a scale of 3,000m above sea level.

This particular example has been preserved in great overall condition. The old vintage dial has only a few aging spots that are only visible under a loupe. The stainless steel case is very well preserved and shows only few signs of wear. The case back still bears the deep engravings: "FAVRE-LEUBA GENEVE BIVOUAC" and the reference number 53203. The winding crown is original and bears the Favre-Leuba logo.

Overall, this Favre Leuba Bivouac 53223 is a rare vintage watch with a charismatic look and a rare barometer function.
