Description
This Omega Chronostop 145.008 dates from 1969 and has many interesting design features as well as an unusual chronograph complication.

The first Chronostop was presented by Omega in 1966 as a low-priced Seamaster for young watch lovers. The Omega Chronostop is a very unusual chronograph. In contrast to the conventional chronograph, which has a minute counter or even an hour totalizer, the Chronostop has no sub-dials. This chronograph is designed to stop short time intervals - less than a minute. By pressing the single pusher at 2 o'clock the orange second hand starts to move. To stop the hand and to read the seconds, one has to press and hold the pusher. By releasing the pusher, the hand jumps back to 12 o'clock. Because of its creative mechanics and attractive designs, the Omega Chronostop was highly respected in the watch industry and has received multiple awards.

This particular Omega Chronostop was designed for pilots and has a rotatable inner bezel that can be turned with the crown at 10 o'clock. The colorful 24-hour bezel carries the numbers in pairs from 1-13 to 12-24, which is why this watch is also called "Roulette". Thanks to this bezel, it is possible to read two time zones simultaneously.

In terms of condition, this Omega Seamaster Chronostop is satisfying on all fronts. The 41mm stainless steel case still has retained his brushed surfaces and shows perfectly defined bevels. This recommends, that this watch has been polished maybe once very lightly in the past. Most vintage watches from the 1960s have been polished several times in order to remove scratches. For this reason they also lose their original profile and the brushed surface.

The pie-pan dial of this Omega Seamaster Chronostop will make the hearts of vintage collectors beat faster. It doesn't have a single scratch. Every single tritium dot on the hour markers is original and intact. The inscription "T SWISS MADE T" indicates that tritium is used for the lume.

Another important feature of Vintage Chronostop watches is the original flat acrylic crystal with the Omega symbol in the middle. This Chronostop has such an original crystal, which makes this watch even rarer, because most Chronostops received new crystals during a service. It is also almost impossible to get the original crystal for this watch today.

The Chronostop movement is Omega’s in-house caliber 865. This high quality manual wind movement was a simpler version of the movement that powers the Speedmaster. Thanks to its simplicity, the 865 caliber is highly precise and powerful. This Chronostop has been checked and is working perfectly in all functions.
