The vintage chronograph from Orfina Porsche Design was designed by none other than Ferdinand Porsche in 1972 and was the counterpart to the famous Porsche 911 sports car.
In an interview with Ferdinand Porsche: "My aim was to create a watch to match the car. Black like the speedometer and tachometer of the 911, because it doesn't dazzle when reading it." The chronograph was a complete success with over 50,000 sales. The Porsche Design watch soon became part of the basic equipment of every Porsche 911 driver. Many famous racing drivers such as Clay Regazzoni also wore the watch on their wrists.
This particular examle has been beautifully preserved and is accompanied by original papers and the box. The black dial with the black subdials is absolutely perfect and clean. The tritium lume has a nice creamy color. The case has a black chrome matt coating (PVD) and is preserved excellently. The black PVD coating often shows heavy wear, which is why it is difficult to find such a well-preserved specimen. The bracelet is also black PVD coated and is in excellent condition.
This chronograph is powered by the Lemania 5100 automatic movement. The watch has a small second with a hacking second function, a weekday and date display with quick set. The crown has three positions. The first position is for winding. In the second crown position, the date is set by turning in the winding direction and the day of the week by turning contrary the winding direction. The time is set in the third position. The chronograph has a red second hand and a white minute hand, which is central. The 12-hour counter is at 6 o'clock. All functions work perfectly.
Today Porsche Design Chronos are very sought after. Even if produced in large numbers, the Orfina models in particular are very difficult to find in good original condition on the market today.
