This is a Universal Genève Polerouter De Luxe 10234-2 from 1955 in a 18k rose gold case with a beautiful patinated dial.
The unmistakable design of the Universal Genève Polerouter was created by Gerald Genta. The great number of different dials can be compared with the Rolex Datejust. Again and again we are surprised by new (vintage)-designs of the Polerouter.
The silver dial of this 65-year-old watch has a breathtaking unique patina that is the result of natural aging. The beauty of this dial is difficult to put into words, so we prefer to let the pictures speak for themselves. The dial is divided by a crosshair. The watch has folded rose gold dauphine hands and triangular hour markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9. The watch owes its special flair to the golden tension ring with fluted hour indices.
The case is made of 18k rose gold and has elegant, thin, curved lugs. The case back is engraved with the reference number and serial number, both of which are intact and clearly legible. That is an indication that the watch has not been overpolished in the past. Overall, the case has hardly any scratches and is in excellent condition.
The movement of this watch is the caliber 138SS from Universal Genève. The special thing about this automatic movement is that the rotor can rotate about 315 degrees and not the usual 360 degrees. The two springs enclose the bumper weight (see picture of the movement). The movement is shockproof, anti-magnetic and keeps time very accurately.
This Universal Genève Polerouter is not only a valuable vintage collector's item, but also a super-elegant everyday wristwatch for a stylish person.
