This is a special and very rare execution of the Rolex GMT Master 16710 from 1998. The watch is accompanied by the original accessories including a chronometer certificate and box.
The reference 16710 was manufactured between 1989 and 2007. In this long production period of 18 years, however, there were many changes within this reference. This resulted in modifications of the GMT Master 16710, which are now considered as independent variants. The first dials of the GMT 16710 had tritium markers and were in production until 1997/1998. These watches had the inscription "SWISS - T<25" at 6 o'clock. From 1998/99 Tritium was replaced by Luminova and the dials were marked "SWISS" at 6 o'clock - the so-called swiss-only dials. In a very short transition period (probably less than 6 months) Rolex used "SWISS - T<25" dials with Luminova. The present GMT Master 16710 dates from 1998 and has such a transition dial that is extremely rare and very much appreciated by discerning Rolex collectors.
This GMT is in a fantastic overall condition with minimal signs of wear. The black dial is absolutely clean and flawless. The stainless steel Oyster case has sharp lugs and a thick profile. The Coke bezel shows rich colors. The Oyster bracelet is also in great condition and has very little stretch.
This Rolex GMT Master 16710 is accompanied by original accessories. The full set includes the chronometer certificate from the year of sale. The first owner purchased the watch on July 6, 1998 from Bucherer in Zurich, Switzerland. The paper is punched with the serial number U655xxx and the country code 010 (Switzerland). The watch is also accompanied by a presentation box, an outer box with the correct reference number sticker, booklet, guarantee translation and the green Rolex guarantee holder.
Rarity, excellent condition and original full set make this Rolex GMT-Master a first-class collector's item that is very difficult to replace.
