Description
This is a Rolex Submariner 5513 with a Maxi I dial from 1979.

Thanks to its long history, its well-proportioned case shape and its timeless dial design, the Rolex Submariner has the status of the most iconic diving watch. Particularly popular with vintage collectors is the Submariner reference 5513, which was manufactured between 1962 and 1989. The long production period is clear proof that the Submariner 5513 has stood the test of time thanks to its timeless design. The Submariner 5513 underwent only minimal changes and improvements to stay true to the watch's original design.

The Maxi Dial series was introduced around 1976 and was replaced around 1984 by the glossy black dial. The term "Maxi" refers to the larger tritium hour markers compared to the previous dial versions. Within the Maxi Dial family, 5 different dial variants are known. All have the word "SUBMARINER" printed above the depth rating, except for the first Maxi I which has "SUBMARINER" printed below the depth rating. The Maxi I dials were produced between 1977 and 1979 and can be found in cases with the serial number range 5085xxx-6205xxx. This makes the Maxi I Submariner the rarest version among the Maxis.

This Rolex Submariner 5513 fulfills all the characteristics of a Maxi Dial I. However, not only the coveted configuration, but also the excellent condition makes this watch so special and worth collecting. The matte black dial is free from spots or visible flaws. There is a tiny scratch between 2 and 3 o'clock, only visible under a magnifying glass. The tritium lume is original and intact. On the acrylic crystal there are minimal scratches which are barely visible and which can be polished away if desired. The Oyster case is beautifully preserved and has sharp lugs. With the exception of a barely visible mini scratch at 9 o'clock, the black diver's bezel is perfectly preserved and rotates smoothly. Even the pearl at 12 o'clock is original. The heart of the watch is the chronometer-certified automatic caliber 1530, which operates absolutely flawlessly and reliably.

The Oyster bracelet is also in very good condition and dates from 1981.
