The watch manufacturer Vulcain was founded in 1858 and belongs to pioneers of diving watches. The legendary model Cricket-Nautical was developed together with the scientist Hannes Keller and presented in 1961. It was the first wristwatch to have an alarm complication. In 1969, the second version of the Cricket-Nautical offered here was introduced.
What makes this particular example so special is its stunning NOS (New Old Stock) condition. The unpolished case has only some storage marks. The beautiful dial with it's decompression table is absolutely flawless.
The large cushion-shaped 42mm case houses the manual-wound Vulcain S2 caliber. This mechanical movement is quite unique. If you turn the main crown forward, then the alarm (the alarm spring) is wound. If you turn the same crown in the opposite direction, the watch is wound. Pressing the upper pusher pulls out the main crown to set the alarm. If you pull out the main crown by hand, then it can be used to set the time. The lower crown is used to turn the inner bezel. Impressive and just cool mechanics!
