Universal Genève Compax 124107 E.B. - Brazilian Military

Exercito Brasiliero - 18k rose gold - 38mm

Description
This Universal Genève Compax 124107 is a large three-register chronograph from the 1940s. The watch shows the engravings of the Brazilian Armed Forces on its back.

In 1937, Universal Genève obtained a patent for the developed chronograph caliber 285 with an additional 12-hour counter. The first wristwatch launched with this caliber was the "Compax". The timepiece had a robust movement and a stopwatch complication, making it a suitable tool for soldiers during training exercises and combat operations.

Here we offer you a very rare rose gold version of the UG Compax from the 1940s. In addition to the reference and serial number, you can see the engraving of the Brazilian Air and Sea Forces "E.B" (Exercito Brasiliero) on the back. With the help of the red telemeter scale, the military could quickly determine the distance to the enemy troops. When the muzzle flash lit up, the soldiers started the chronograph, and on impact they stopped it again. Now the tip of the central second hand pointed to the distance in km. The watch also features a blue tachymeter scale.

This Compax has a diameter of 38mm, which was extremely rare for a wristwatch from the 1940s. Moreover, the dial extends over the entire diameter of the case, as there is no bezel. This creates a wonderful presence of the three register dial on the wrist. The rose gold leaf-shaped hands also ensure an elegant look.

Condition report
Dial: great condition, no significant stains - absolutely even patina on the entire dial - intact telemeter and tachymeter scale - signed "SWISS".

Case: 18k rose gold case in excellent condition - sharp lugs - almost no signs of wear - deep reference and serial number on the case back - intact gold hallmark on case side and inside the back.

Movement: in-house manual-wind caliber Universal Genève 287 in very good condition - service recommended in the near future.

Summing-Up
Even regardless of its military origins, this Universal Genève offers a number of well-beloved characteristics: the large diameter, a superbly preserved pink gold case, a stunning vintage patina and a famous movement. The military engraving on the back makes the watch even more special and collectible.
