Rolex Datejust 6305 Rose Gold - Ovettone

The Rolex Datejust offered here is an extremely rare and special version of the 1950s reference 6305 with a rose gold case, rose gold bracelet and a rare dial configuration.

The Datejust is the oldest Rolex model still in production today. The diverse references with different dial designs delight collectors all over the world.

The old reference 6305 was in production for a very short period between 1953 and 1955 and is already extremely rare. This particular watch is even more special because of its dial. It bears the so-called OCC inscription ("OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED CHRONOMETER"), which can only be found on early Rolex specimens. In addition, the dial features an alternating black and red date disc and is one of the very first roulette dials in watchmaking history.

Another rarity of this Datejust is its case: it is made of solid rose gold. This fact alone makes the watch very rare, as most watches were made of steel or yellow gold. Due to the relatively large depth of the caseback, which protects the automatic caliber A296, this case is known by the Italian nickname "Ovettone" (big egg). And then there is the original rose gold Jubilee bracelet, the buckle of which is stamped with the year 1/55.

This Datejust still features an old finely fluted bezel. In the mid-1950s, the changeover to the wide fluted bezel took place. Thus, this Datejust is one of the last watches with this super-elegant and fine bezel.

Condition report
Dial: 70 year old silver dial with intact sunburst - except for the small scratch between 4 and 5 o'clock, a clean and excellently preserved silver surface - original luminous material in the indexes and hands.

Case: 18K rose gold case - light wear marks - intact gold hallmarks - original screw-down Rolex Twinlock crown - perfectly preserved fluted bezel.

Movement: automatic caliber A296 - timegrapher: +9s/day, amplitude: 315, beat error: 0.2.

Bracelet: 18K rose gold jubilee bracelet in TOP condition - almost no stretch - clasp stamped 1/55 (first quarter 1955).

Summing-Up
This is an extremely rare Rolex Datejust that has a number of special features. Thanks to its condition, this watch is one of the best examples of the reference 6305. A completely coherent 70 year old vintage watch in a truly exceptional condition.
