There is no doubt that the Rolex Zenith Daytona 16520 is already an icon among collectors and motorsport fans. Here we present the iconic chronograph dedicated to the most prestigious motorsport race in the world.
The 1992 Monaco Grand Prix is considered one of the most exciting Formula 1 races in history. Two of the most famous drivers, Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell, fought a breathtaking battle, which Ayrton Senna won in the end.
The engraving "Grand Prix De Monaco 1992" on the case back of this Rolex Daytona 16520 indicates that this watch was presented to one of the drivers at the traditional gala dinner at the end of the Formula 1 season in November 1992. The chronometer certificate of this Rolex Daytona shows the handover date of November 14, 1992 and the stamp of the jeweler STEPHANE from Monte Carlo. The Rolex guarantee is punched with the serial number of the watch and the correct country code 110 (France).
It is a so-called "Zenith" Daytona, which was produced between 1988 and 1999. During this period, Rolex used the famous Zenith El Primero automatic chronograph movement, which, after further modifications by Rolex, became a certified chronometer and was given the in-house caliber number 4030, which we can see on the movement bridge.
Until 1994, Zenith Daytonas had so-called "inverted six" dials. On the 12-hour totalizer, the 6 was printed towards the center of the dial and was therefore inverted. This was changed in later series (from W onwards) and therefore this feature is one of the rare highlights of this watch.
