This "Zenith" Daytona with the coveted black dial comes in a collectible full set from 1994.
Produced from 1988 to 1999, the Daytona Chronograph with five-digit references was the first automatic chronograph from the renowned watch brand and the direct successor to the manually-wound Daytona, which was powered by the Valjoux 72. Rolex used the legendary El Primero movement from Zenith as the base movement for its new automatic chronograph, hence the nickname "Zenith" Daytona. After an in-house modification, the Rolex caliber 4030 was created, which also received chronometer certification. The dials of the "Zenith" Daytona therefore proudly show the inscription "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified". The era of Zenith Daytonas lasted 12 years until Rolex introduced the six-digit Daytona reference with an in-house chronograph movement in 2000.
Not only is this steel Daytona 16520 in fantastic overall condition, it is also accompanied by a complete set of accessories:
- Chronometer certificate with printed serial number, style number, dial variant "BLACK" and seller's stamp: Ben Bridge JLRS.
- hang tag with matching serial number
- Factory Service Booklet
- Rolex calendar 1993/1994
- Daytona booklet
- "Your Rolex Oyster" booklet
- green presentation box
- outer box.
The combination of black dial and steel case is very attractive and at the same time not as flashy as a gold case Daytona for example. This specimen has an "inverted 6" dial, in which the six in the 12-hour totalizer is "upside down". These dials were produced until the mid-1990s. This has been changed in later series and therefore this dial variant is one of the rarest dials when it comes to Zenith Daytonas.
On the wrist, the Daytona offers a sporty and at the same time very fine appearance, thanks to the high-quality finish of the case and dial. The red "DAYTONA" inscription above the sub-dial at 6 o'clock is particularly striking.
