Less than 5 examples of this ultra-rare and exceptional Compax chronograph by Universal Genève from the 1940s are known to exist today.
The Universal Genève Compax line is highly sought after by collectors for its reliability, design and historical significance. The UG Compax was produced in various dial configurations, case designs and sizes.
The watch offered here is an ultra-rare Compax variant with one of the most striking dials we have ever seen on a chronograph from the 20th century. Depending on the viewing angle, the exotic dial takes on different shades of gray, ranging from dark gray to white-cream. The gray main dial contrast harmoniously with the light-colored sub-dials and the outer ring. In our opinion this dial is a work of watchmaking art.
Another special feature is the size and design of the case. The famous Spillman case, recognizable by its beveled lugs, has a diameter of 38 mm, which was oversized and rare for this era. Thanks to its perfectly balanced proportions, the chronograph has a wonderful presence on the wrist.
Both the dial and the case are in excellent condition for a watch from the 1940s.
This UG Compax is one of the 150 selected chronographs published in the book "FERO 150 Steel Chronographs" (see pictures).
