This remarkable Breitling SuperOcean Reference 2005 is a contemporary witness to the 1960s, an era in which the watchmaking world was inspired by the spirit of adventure and innovation.
In the 1950s, the growing popularity of diving and water sports led to an increasing demand for reliable diver's watches. In 1957, Breitling launched the SuperOcean 807, designed specifically for experienced divers who prioritised performance and reliability. Building on the success of the SuperOcean Reference 807, Willy Breitling wanted to further improve readability for divers. The result is the "Slow Motion" chronograph offered here, reference 2005, in which the central chronograph hand rotates around the dial every hour instead of every minute, eliminating the need for a small minute counter. To ensure that the diver always knows whether the chronograph is running, an ingenious indicator has been integrated at 6 o'clock: Yellow for running, black with a yellow dot for paused and completely black for reset - a sophisticated solution for safe and clear reading under water.
The large, screwed 42 mm stainless steel case with rotating bezel and the high-contrast dial give this chronograph its impressive appearance. It captivates with its warm tritium lume on the deep black inner disk, which is elegantly framed by a white ring with a minute scale.
With its functionality, innovative design and unmistakable aesthetics, the SuperOcean Reference 2005 is a masterpiece that epitomises spirit of adventure and Breitling's pioneering achievement.
